(Courtney’s P.O.V.)
I sat on bed indian-style, tears streaming down my face. How could he do this to me? On the day he’s supposed to say goodbye to me, on the day I’m leaving the tour and we’re not gonna see each other for two months… he doesn’t even attempt to show and no one even has any idea where he is! I went over possible scenarios in my mind and my sobs grew. Who knew what he was doing right now?
“Hey, look, it’s gonna be okay. Maybe he just couldn’t take you leaving and he couldn’t bear to say goodbye to you!” Amanda reasoned from her spot on the bed next to me. “I’m sure he has a good reason for not being there.”
I considered this. “Well, whatever reason he has, you were right all along. I should never have let him leave last night!” My vision blurred as I remembered last night and everything that had happened. “Do you think he’s just overwhelmed, what with the president and everything?” I asked Amanda hopefully. I could understand that. I mean, with everything that had been going on in the past few days, we were all overwhelmed!
“Well, that could definitel -” She cut off suddenly as my phone rang out from beside me, Alex’s own voice ringing out in the room, my ringtone. She looked at me, her eyes filled with questions.
Just hearing his voice made me break down and I knew Amanda had her answer. She hit the ignore button on the phone and pulled me in for a hug. “He’ll just have to wait, won’t he?”
I laughed through my tears and pulled myself off the bed. “You’re right. He can wait. In the meantime, I’m gonna get clean and take a nice, long, hot shower…” I trailed off. “Anyways. Just, ignore the call if he calls again. I shall be back,” I said with a sigh, walking into my bathroom. I stripped, turning on the shower, and stepped under the hot spray and let the rest of the tears fall.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I walked back into my room to the sound of my phone ringing AGAIN. I let out a groan. “Just… give me the phone. He’s waited long enough.” Amanda, who was still in the same position I had left her in, hesitated before handing me the phone, her eyebrows raised as if to question me. “As you said, I’m sure he has a reasonable explanation,” I said to her. Before I could rethink my decision, I punched the ANSWER button, followed by the speaker button. If I was really gonna do this, I wasn’t gonna do it alone. “Hello?”
“Court? Thank god. I’ve been trying to call you for hours!” Alex’s voice was tiny coming through the phone, but you could hear the nervousness in his voice.
“And I waited for you for hours,” I said haughtily, avoiding Amanda’s eyes. “Where the hell were you?” My voice cracked, betraying the front I had put up.
“Courtney… I am so sorry. I can’t believe…” He stopped and it sounded like he was crying. “God, I’m so fucking stupid! Last night… See, I told Jack about what the president said and he… we both really needed something to just help us forget. He suggested…” Alex took a gulp, failing to swallow his tears. “Jack suggested we go to this bar down the street, have a couple of shots to loosen up. I didn’t want to, but I didn’t know what else to do, so we went to the bar… and, well, I guess we went overboard.” He let out a sob and the sound made tears come to my eyes.
“Alex… so you’re saying you got drunk? That doesn’t explain you not at least coming back to the bus. It’s not like you could’ve stayed in the bar all night, passed out!” I exclaimed, feeling anger surge through me. What kind of excuse was this?
“Just… God, what have I done?” he said, almost to himself. “We didn’t stay at the bar. We… This morning, I woke up in this random hotel. I had no idea what had happened and I didn’t remember anything after my fourth beer. But Jack… well, he had his camera… and last night, he didn’t get as wasted as I did. He… when he woke up this morning, he remembered some stuff, but only vaguely. So he pulled out his camera…” Alex stopped and let out a string of sobs. I could only barely hear Jack in the background, telling Alex that he had to tell me.
“Alex, what are you trying to say?” I asked quietly, scared of the answer. I felt Amanda move closer to me, her hand rubbing circles on my back and I knew that she was thinking that same thing as me.
I could feel his reluctance right through the phone. “Courtney… I… I kissed another girl last night,” he blurted out. His sobs grew and grew until finally I couldn’t bear to hear them anymore. I dropped the phone from my hands and ran out of the room, Amanda close behind, but not close enough. I slammed the door in her face and ran down the hallway, trying to understand what Alex had just told me. He had… cheated on me? I let out a cry as the realization hit me. He had always said he would never, ever do that to me. After Stan… I shook my head, wanting the thought out of my head, and grabbed my car keys and Amanda’s cell phone, since I had left mine upstairs. I wrote Amanda a note, just to be safe, and I took off towards my car jumping in and gunning the engine.
I needed to get away.

(Amanda’s P.O.V.)
I walked slowly back to the bed, picking up Courtney’s phone, out of which Alex was screaming desperately, “Courtney? COURTNEY!!! Hello?? Come on, please, let me explain!” As much as I felt like hanging up on the douche bag, I knew I needed to hear what Courtney hadn’t stayed to listen to.
“Alex… what the fuck have you done?” I yelled angrily into the phone. “Now she’s run off and you’ve gone and ruined everything!” I thought of what had happened with Stan and Courtney… not a good idea. I shook it off. “Just… what exactly happened?” I asked him, sighing.
“Well, see, we were at this bar and I got drunk, really, really drunk and I started hitting on the waitress and the bar was closing so she brought us to this hotel and I guess before she left she was all like, “How about a kiss?” and I kept saying no, that I already had a girlfriend, but she must’ve gotten the best of me cause I ended up making out with her, but then I pushed her off and ran inside the room and threw up and passed out,” he explained all in one breath. He stopped, letting the sobs overtake him. “Jack filmed it all, cause he thought it was fucking funny. How insensitive can you fucking be?” Alex yelled. “Wait a sec.” I heard him put his hand over the mouthpiece of his phone and I heard him say something to someone. “Ok, I’m back. Umm, this might not be helpful right now, but we’re like twenty minutes from your house.”
“What the fuck?” I yelled. How could he be here? They were supposed to be on tour! “Did you leave the tour or something? Cause you’re supposed to be on stage, like, now,” I said sarcastically.
“Actually, we told them that we’d be missing the rest of the shows cause of family problems,” Alex replied in all seriousness.
My jaw dropped. They were really gonna leave the tour cause of Courtney? “You really care about her, don’t you? I’m not stupid enough to think that you don’t care about leaving the tour, cause I know you do, but you care about her more than that. I guess I should probably tell you about Stan, then.”
“Stan?” Alex exclaimed. “Who’s Stan?”
“Stan is Courtney’s ex-boyfriend. She was just a sophomore when she met him, while he was in college. See, he used to tutor high school kids, he’d give classes at the library. He was her tutor, but they really hit it off and they started dating not long after she started taking her lessons. They went out for about a year, and from the outside, it looked like everything was fine, but it really wasn’t. He started pressuring her to have sex with him at some point, and you could tell he was really angry she kept saying no. One day, their anniversary was coming up and Courtney wanted to surprise Stan at the library, but when she found him, he was cheating on her with some whore. It turns out he had been cheating on her for four months, and after she found out, she swore that if another guy ever did that to her, she would never forgive him,” I concluded.
“Oh, shit. So that’s why she’s really taking it badly?” he asked.
“And why there is a very slim chance she’ll forgive you,” I said sadly.
“Well, where is she now?”
I thought about it. “I’m pretty sure I know, but I can’t tell you.” I walked downstairs, checking to see if she had left me a note. “She left me a note.”
“Well what does it say?” Alex asked eagerly.
I read it out loud. “Amanda: I’m going to where you think I’m going. I need to be alone for a while. Love you, Court.”
“What the fuck does that mean?” he yelled out in frustration.
“I’m sorry, Alex. I can’t tell you,” I said softly and hung up the phone.
